About

head-shotI created my first website in the late 90’s, after learning HTML in a college workshop. These days, I enjoy educating clients about the process of user-centered design and how it can improve usability.

Too often, I see websites and applications that would have really benefitted from a more detailed and thoughtful design process. A cluttered page layout, a lack of polish to visual design, or a confusing sequence of events can negatively impact their business and brand identity. These problems can discourage users from engaging in or even trusting their site.

I also enjoy communicating with clients to determine what they feel their greatest needs are and how they think a site can help them. The next step is to discuss how we can do that. Sometimes clients need to be challenged to ensure that they’re getting what they really need.

Does this firm need a blog? Is there a system in place to make sure it’s providing value and updated regularly? Do they REALLY want a repeating sound effect on that main navigation? A Flash intro page is probably just a waste of their potential client’s time. Have they thought about the growing mobile web?

I find inspiration from learning how to improve the design process and keep up with the latest trends and techniques in the industry.

When I’m not designing, I enjoy watching football, hockey, and baseball, reading comics and graphic novels and playing some video games.
